Arkansas Novaculite, mined in the Ouachita Mountains, is recognized around the world for its ability to sharpen knives.  The four-inch tri-hone includes oil to prepare the stone for whetting, and three stones for producing the best edge. The course stone is to prepare a blade that it particularly dull or has nicks. Medium, otherwise known as soft Arkansas, is a general purpose stone that achieves a nice edge on your blade. Fine, also known as hard Arkansas, is the stone that will begin to make your blade razor sharp.
