Community Matters!
We live in a strange time for community. On the one hand, we feel more connected to others than ever, with vast networks of people online connecting and collaborating together over similar interests and goals. But on the other hand, in our physical, day-to-day lives, we tend to be quite isolated. Homesteading, in particular, can be very isolating. The work often keeps us tied to our land; the mindset of radical self-sufficiency can cause us to feel like we must produce everything we need with our own hands on our own soil, which can be daunting, unrealistic, and demoralizing if we are going at it alone. Many of us are striving to emulate the lives of our ancestors, and others who blazed the trail before us, but we take for granted that community was an integral part of their lives–and thus should also be an integral part of ours.
At North Georgia Homestead Supply, we aim to be a place where community is birthed, nurtured, and grown into something beautiful, useful, and collaborative. We are passionate about connecting with our neighbors in a meaningful way, and just doing life together. One way we are building community with our north Georgia neighbors is through monthly homesteader’s meetings. At these meetings, usually held on a Saturday morning, we sip hot coffee, enjoy some light snacks, and connect with others who are walking similar paths and pursuing similar goals. There is always great discussion to be had, and new friends and connections to be made. These meetings have drawn a crowd from all across north Georgia, and have been a lot of fun!
We also have several classes each month, teaching important, useful, and interesting skills. Classes are a fantastic way to connect with folks who hold similar interests, and grow your own skill set! As North Georgia Homestead Supply grows, we hope to offer even more ways to connect with one another and grow our community. We would love to see you at our next homesteader’s meeting, on Saturday, April 13th, at 9:00 AM. You can RSVP on our website, at www.northgeorgiahomestead.com. While you’re there, make sure to sign up for our email list, so that you can be the first to know about our homestead meetings, community-building events, and classes1 - Bess Miller
